Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero has been an actress and model in the United States for a number of years. She's best known for her part in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain as well as being the lead vocalist of Apollonia 6, a girl group. The actor and singer christened Apollonia by Prince and became one of the many female artists in the '80s that benefited from her connection with Prince, the Purple One. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her professional career began as a model actress by the end of the '70s including an appearance on the TV show CHiPS. As the female protagonist of Prince's Purple Rain was her first role from the year 1984. Prince changed the girl's name at this point. She replaced Vanity with the female trio Vanity 6 for her role in the film as Apollonia 6 replacing Vanity. The singer made a bigger influence on the charts by being Prince's mate in Take Me with You, which was a duet in the soundtrack. Kotero was able to break up with Prince when they fell out over the future of Apollonia 6. She appeared in several minor film projects during this time however, she was not able to appear in her role in the Purple Rain sequel Under the Cherry Moon. Between 1985 and 1986, she got a role in the evening drama Falcon Crest. Apollonia made her debut album in 1988, however it was not a great mix of dance and R&B music that failed to attract the attention of the general audience. The album was quickly wiped from view. Through the years, she remained an active actress, playing minor roles in films and a few TV series. Apollonia produced a Spanish/English bilingual album called Stay with Me. She returned to the school, received a diploma in filmmaking. After that, she started her own company and worked in children's TV. Apollonia is a multi-talented woman. She's worked as model, actress and talent manager. In 1984, she was recognized with her role on the show Purple Rain. Her other films and television shows include Black Magic Woman, The Divorce Ceremony and many others. Kotero debuted her career as a model. She participated in numerous pageants.
